North Holland Dune Reserve
The route starts in Egmond aan den Hoef. You will soon cycle into the North Holland Dune Reserve. Due to the enormous variety of plant and animal species, the reserve is a rarity in Europe. A wonderful area to completely clear your head and refuel energy. In Bergen aan Zee you can get off at De Duinerij. Grab a cozy terrace here and enjoy something tasty and the fresh sea air.
Apart from cheese, Alkmaar is also a city of windmills. You pass the Geestmolen, a polder mill from 1565. In the old city center you will see plenty of beautiful buildings and the Molen van Piet, a corn mill from 1769. Cranenbroek is a farmhouse from 1755. After you leave the Heilooer forest, you will soon see the Varnebroeker , a polder mill from 1860. The idyllic surroundings of Kasteel Egmond are a nice bouncer at the end of your route.
