Description
The Schoorlse Duinen is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. Get on your bike and discover it yourself. In the area around this dune area you will ride through the vast Dutch polders.
Hargermolen
The route starts with a terrace at De Duinerij in Bergen aan Zee. There is also a charging point for your bike available here. Bergen aan Zee used to not be a village but consisted of a few houses and farms in the dunes. The first cafe was opened in 1905! Bergen aan Zee has existed for over 100 years and is still very popular among tourists. Enjoy the wonderful surroundings here!
From here you drive straight into the Schoorlse Duinen, the widest dune area in the Netherlands. A century ago, this was still one big sandpit. Now you see open drifting dunes, wet plains, dense forests and heathlands. Further on you drive a bit along the Hondsbossche Zeewering. A nice breath of fresh air by the sea! The Hargermolen dates from 1804. Its predecessor was killed in 1799 during fighting between an English-Russian army and the French occupiers.
Floating bridge
In Burgervlotbrug you see one of the five remaining floating bridges in the Netherlands. In the polders it is nice to make kilometers along the canal. After a while you drive through Geestmerambacht, a recreation area of meadows and groves. Artists' village Bergen is the last place on your route. And certainly not the least, how beautiful it is here with all those stately old villas!
