There are some beautiful centuries-old polders in the rural area of Heerhugowaard. You will discover peace, high Dutch skies and characteristic villages full of sights.
Black Church
The route starts at the Alkmaarder and Uitgeestermeer. You can enjoy the view over the water here before cycling onto the Zuiddijk. From your bike you can see the extensive grasslands of the old Droogmakerij Schermer. Every now and then you pass an authentic farmhouse. In picturesque Zuidschermer you can admire the Zwarte Kerkje from 1665, it is one of the few remaining bell-shaped churches.
Eilandspolder
Just past Heerhugowaard you pass the Broeker Veiling. The monumental wooden auction building from 1912 now serves as a museum, so it's a nice departure! You drive along the Eilandspolder, on the edge of which are picturesque villages such as Grootschermer, Noordeinde and the former port of Graft. What a beautiful region!
