You can take a beautiful bike ride through the countryside around Heerhugowaard. In this region you will discover historic sights, charming old villages and a vast cycling landscape.
Ironing mills
The famous Broeker Veiling is your first attraction. The monumental wooden auction building from 1912 now serves as a museum, so it's a nice departure! Just before Rustenburg you see three beautiful ironing mills appearing on the horizon from a distance. Two date from 1631, Ironing Mill I was built in 1864, after its predecessor burned down due to lightning.
West Frisian Town Hall
In the polders it is wonderful to travel for miles on car-free roads. You enjoy the views over the grasslands and ditches. Every now and then you see a bell jar farm here. In Spanbroek you can visit the Scheringa Museum for Realism. A little further on is the Town Hall from 1598, one of the oldest in West Friesland. De Vier Winden is a beautiful polder mill from 1891.
