Description
This route takes you through the vast West Frisian polders around De Noord and Veenhuizen. A nice trip to get a breath of fresh air.
Bell jar farm
The route starts at the edge of the village of De Noord. You walk into the polder on a car-free road. Here you can enjoy the characteristic landscape of vast grasslands that are bordered by trees that have grown crooked in the wind. You also regularly pass by farmhouses that are three-quarters surrounded by ditches. How nice and quiet it is to walk here, while enjoying the high Dutch skies.
Polder mills
In Veenhuizen you will pass a bell tower. In the modern church you will find the mausoleum of Baron van Brederode from 1633. In the countryside you will walk along a number of canals. You will pass three beautiful polder mills. First you will see the Vier Winden from 1891. Further on is the Veenhuizer from 1603. The Berkmeermolen dates from 1608. What a cultural history!
