Description
Time seems to have stood still in the Hanseatic cities of Elburg and Hattem. Narrow alleys and monumental buildings bring history to life. Both Hattem and Elburg were real trading cities in the Middle Ages.
The picturesque appearance of Hattem and the surrounding area attracted numerous painters in the early 1900s, who tried to immortalize the Dutch clouds above the IJssel. Hattem is bustling with life due to its wide range of shops in pleasant streets and alleys. Fashion, art, antiques, industry and craftsmanship can be found in a radius of 300 meters. The Oude Wallen in Elburg with their beautiful trees, the narrow alleys, the cobbled sidewalks and beautiful vistas make the fortress an attractive environment. This cycle route partly follows the track of the old Hessenweg. These former trade roads used to be used by German merchants (from Hesse ).
