From the dikes along the East and West Scheldt you have beautiful views over the water and the many boats. On Zuid-Beveland it is wonderfully quiet cycling through the polders.
Drowned land
You start the route just outside the village of Oostdijk. In the polders it is nice to make kilometers between the grasslands and orchards. Walk up the dike for a beautiful view over the Oosterschelde. At the bottom of the dike lies the Verdronken Land van Zuid-Beveland. In 1530 this part of Zuid-Beveland flooded. Now there is a nature reserve of mudflats and salt marshes where many birds live.
Western Scheldt
After crossing the Scheldt-Rhine Canal, which opened in 1975, you can get off at Non Plus Ultra for a drink and a bite to eat. From the polder you can see the steep edge of the Brabantse Wal in the distance. You pass Bath, a former fortification. Here too you can climb the dike, this time for a view over the Western Scheldt. In Waarde you can admire the centuries-old village church. De Hoed is a corn mill that has been here since 1991.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
