Description

This beautiful route takes you through Heemskerk and the North Holland Dune Reserve. A route full of sights and natural beauty.

Water supply dunes
The route starts in Heemskerk. On your way to the center you pass the monumental Sint-Laurentiuskerk from 1891 with its striking tower. Further on is the village church. The tower dates from the fifteenth century, the rest of the building dates from 1629. After walking through the polder for a while, you walk into the Waterleidingduinen, which are part of the North Holland Dune Reserve. The landscape here consists of a mix of dunes, deciduous and coniferous trees.

Marquette Castle
There is a watchtower on the 26 meter high Kruisberg, from where you have a beautiful view of the area. The castle on Landgoed Marquette was built on the foundations of a thirteenth-century fortress. You walk back to the starting point along the leafy Neksloot.
