Castricum, North Holland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 740859
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Vast dunes, historic towns and a wide polder landscape: they are all included in this route. First you cycle through the North Holland Dune Reserve. An elongated nature reserve where the winding and sometimes undulating cycle path leads you many kilometres through forests, heathlands and of course through the dunes. With a bit of luck, the wind will give you a push in the back. Further on you cycle into the bulb region with its colourful fields. You will also see many sights here. For example, you pass the nineteenth-century Varnebroeker, a polder mill. You will also pass two forts from the Defence Line of Amsterdam: Fort Marken-Binnen from 1905 and Fort aan de Krommeniedijk from 1903. Along the Alkmaarder- and Uitgeestermeer you have beautiful views over the water.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
