Two ancient castles
Heemskerk train station is the starting point of this route. From here you walk to the edge of Heemskerk, where you can take a look at the beautiful Assumburg Castle. This castle probably dates from the 13th century and has long been a noble residence. Behind the castle you will find a historic garden that is inspired by the garden that was here around the year 1700. A few kilometers further you will find the second castle on this route: Marquette. This castle was also built in the 13th century. This building was part of a long series of castles that were used for defense during the West Frisian Wars.
