Zierikzee is best explored on foot. Put on your walking shoes and walk through beautiful old streets and along the Oude Haven.
Monument city
It is not without reason that Zierikzee enjoys a protected cityscape. There are no less than 568 monuments, so take the time for this city walk to taste the unique historical atmosphere here. The city obtained its wealth not only through fishing, but also through trade and industry. You will pass the Burgerweeshuis Zierikzee, a former orphanage, the oldest parts of which date from the fifteenth century.
Sint-Lievens monster tower
The most famous building in Zierikzee is the Sint-Lievens Monstertoren from 1506. The tower should have been the highest in the country, but due to a lack of money, this did not happen. At the Oude Haven you pass the medieval North and South Port gates, two of the three remaining city gates of Zierikzee. Further on you will pass Den Haas, a tower mill from 1727.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
