Provided by: Groots Genieten
Zierikzee is best explored on foot. Put on your walking shoes and walk through beautiful old streets and along the Oude Haven.
Monument City
Zierikzee enjoys a protected cityscape for a reason. There are no fewer than 568 monuments, so take the time for this city walk to get a taste of the unique historical atmosphere. The city gained its wealth not only from fishing, but also from trade and industry. You will pass the Burgerweeshuis Zierikzee, a former orphanage, the oldest parts of which date from the fifteenth century.
Sint-Lievensmonstertoren
The most famous building in Zierikzee is the Sint-Lievensmonstertoren from 1506. The tower should have been the tallest in the country, but due to a lack of money, this was canceled. At the Oude Haven you pass the medieval Noord- and Zuidhavenpoort, two of the three remaining city gates of Zierikzee. Further on you will pass by Den Haas, a tower mill from 1727.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
