Tour of the bulb fields near Callantsoog

The route starts at Harry\\\'s Tweewielers in the pleasant seaside town of Callantsoog. Oudesluis was originally located on the wadden-like reaches of the Zuiderzee. It was a mooring place for VOC ships that sailed out to sea via the Marsdiep. However, Oudesluis was cut off from the sea by the construction of the Anna Paulownapolder in 1846. This was only drained in 1846, the last in this part of the Netherlands. The polder was named after the wife of King William II, the Russian Anna Pavlovna. The sandy soil turned out to be extremely suitable for bulb cultivation. The municipality of Anna Paulowna is still the largest contiguous bulb area in the world. From tulips, daffodils and hyacinths in the spring to gladiolus, dahlias, carnations and asters in the spring: you can fully enjoy the beauty of color here!
