Description
Soesterberg Air Base was once a military airfield, but this airfield has been transformed into a beautiful nature reserve that lends itself well to a walk. This route takes you through this green area full of history north of Soesterberg. Go on a trip and discover that Soest is always beautiful.
Explore estates and parks
You start your walk at the edge of Soesterberg. From here you walk to the beautiful Landgoed De Paltz. This estate of approximately 77 hectares was designed in 1876 and is located between the forests of the Soesterberg air base and Soestduinen. When you walk across this estate you can enjoy beech avenues, water features and beautiful views. You will also find an impressive villa, a coach house and a shepherd's house on this estate. Then you walk further through the Park Vliegbasis Soesterberg. From the runway of the former airfield you can enjoy beautiful views of the wide area.

The history of the air base
Soesterberg Air Base was the first military airfield in the Netherlands. It was built in 1913 and from then on the army flew from here. In 2008 the airfield was closed due to defense cuts.
