In the historic city center of Hoorn you can take a leap back in time. In the countryside, vast polders and beautiful villages await you.
Stolphoes
The route starts at the village of Schellinkhout. Cycling to Hoorn you pass some beautiful old bell-shaped farms. You will also see the Krijgsman Windmill: its two predecessors died due to wind and lightning. In the polders it is nice and quiet to cycle under the high Dutch skies. In Avenhorn you pass the beautiful village church with its green tower from 1642.
Picturesque Hoorn
After Amsterdam, Hoorn was the most important port city in the area for centuries. You can still see much of this rich history in the old city center. This part enjoys a protected cityscape due to the many beautiful monumental buildings. You will pass the buildings of the Westfries Museum and the beautiful Waag from 1609. On the Grote Oost you will see one old building after another. You leave the town past the sixteenth-century Oosterpoort, the only remaining city gate in Hoorn.
