Description

This route starts at De Jongh Fietsspecialist. Behind the West Frisian Omringdijk you will find a region full of cultural history. The beautiful Beemsterpolder has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1999. You understand here what is meant by the statement 'God created the world, the Dutch created the Netherlands'. The Beemster is veined with ditches, canals and channels to regulate the water level. You can still see the old rectangular allotment pattern here, between the characteristic bell-shaped farms. In Middenbeemster you seem to cycle back in time through the many well-preserved monuments. Climb the dike in Etersheim to enjoy the view! In Schardam you will pass a monumental ban pole from 1761, on the top of which is the coat of arms of Hoorn.
