Koggenland, North Holland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 736528
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Just behind the West Frisian dike you can take a walk through Avenhorn and the surrounding area. Ideal if you want to enjoy the Dutch peace and quiet for a day.
Clock chair
The route starts on the edge of Avenhorn. You will soon walk through the ribbon village of Grosthuizen. You will see some characteristic bell-shaped farms, and in between you will have beautiful views over the vast grasslands. You pass a bell tower that was built in 1974 on the site of the church that was demolished ten years before. The clock 'disappeared' in a shed and was rediscovered in 1972: it is a Hemony clock from 1664.
The Hulk
In Scharwoude you walk through De Hulk, a recreational area just as green as the famous action hero. Forest plots alternate with shrubs, grasslands and ecologically landscaped banks. How peaceful it is here! The Hulk is located at the intersection of two old transport routes: the canals from Hoorn to Alkmaar and Amsterdam. You walk back to the starting point through Polder de Westerkogge.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
