Koggenland, North Holland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 736527
Provided by: Groots Genieten
This route takes you through Grosthuizen and Beets, two villages just outside Hoorn. In the countryside it is nice and quiet to walk through the polders.
Buutschoterpad
The path is constructed with shells, special! This polder was drained as early as 1614. It is wonderfully quiet here to walk under the high Dutch skies. It will therefore not surprise you that many birds live in the vast grasslands.
Farmland path
You cross the Beemster drainage canal via a charming pedestrian bridge. The building on the other side is the Beetskoog Gemaal from 1877. You walk through the Beetskoog Polder via a farmland path. Originally this was land outside the dike, in the Middle Ages it was diked to narrow the wide outlet of the Beemster into the Zuiderzee. In Beets you pass the beautiful fifteenth-century church. You walk back to Grosthuizen along the Beemsterringvaart: what a beautiful landscape!
