Ready for a day of getting some fresh air, but do you also want to experience some cultural history at the same time? Then walk this route through Biervliet and the Braakman in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
Picturesque Biervliet
The route starts at De Gentsche Poort, a cozy family hotel. Enjoy a coffee and something tasty here before you walk into Biervliet. This rural village has a number of beautiful old buildings, such as the nineteenth-century town hall. You will also pass a beautiful flour mill from 1842: De Harmonie. The Reformed Church dates from 1659 and contains a number of seventeenth-century stained glass windows. During the Second World War these windows were in the vault of the town hall in Hulst.
The Braakman
From Biervliet you can walk straight into the vast polder. Here you can enjoy views and the clouds that rarely stand still in Zeeland. Further on you enter the Braakman, a varied nature reserve. For centuries, this former estuary formed a natural border between the western and eastern parts of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The Braakman was closed in 1952. The deciduous forests you are now walking through were planted afterwards. De Braakman is not only beautiful, but also refreshingly quiet!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
