Enjoy the peace and space in the Kromme Rijn region

In the Kromme Rijnstreek you will find an ideal cycling landscape. You will discover plenty of peace, space and orchards. You will also pass a few country houses.

Spotting country houses
The route starts at't Wapen van Bunnik. Take a seat on a terrace here before you cycle into the Kromme Rijnstreek. You cycle through the fields on a shady road. Cycling in such a beautiful landscape almost seems to go without saying. You see several country houses that were originally built as a castle. Such as Kasteel Sterkenburg: a knight's manor whose history dates back to the thirteenth century. Hinderstein was probably built around 1300.

Country estate Wickenburgh
After a short excursion through Wijk bij Duurstede, you drive back into the countryside. Every now and then you pass an old farm. Wickenburgh also has a long history: this beautiful country estate was founded at the beginning of the fourteenth century! Just past junction 98 you pass Fort Vechten, the second largest fort from the New Dutch Waterline. There is also a replica of a Roman watchtower here.
