Enjoy the peace and space in the Kromme Rijn region

An ideal cycling landscape awaits you in the Kromme Rijn region. You will discover plenty of peace, space and orchards here. You will also pass some country houses.

Spotting country houses
The route starts at't Wapen van Bunnik. Grab a terrace here before you cycle into the Kromme Rijn region. You drive through the fields on a leafy road. Cycling in such a beautiful landscape almost seems to come naturally. You will see some country houses that were initially built as castles. Such as Sterkenburg Castle: a knight's court town whose history dates back to the thirteenth century. Hinderstein was probably built around 1300.

Wickenburgh country estate
After a short excursion through Wijk bij Duurstede, you drive back into the countryside. Every now and then you pass an old farm. Wickenburgh also has a long history: this beautiful country estate was founded at the beginning of the fourteenth century! Just past junction 98 you pass Fort Vechten, the second largest fort in the New Dutch Waterline. There is also a replica of a Roman watchtower here.
