You will also walk through the quiet Schokkerbos and the wet grasslands of Schokland.
An island in the polders
The edge of Schokland is the starting point of this route. From here you can walk through this special area. You can recognize the border of Schokland by the trees that form a ring around the former island. Schokland used to be surrounded by water, but now it is part of the mainland due to the reclamation of the Noordoostpolder. Schokland still rises above the surrounding polder landscape, so it is easy to recognize. The wet grasslands were created after drainage to protect the archaeological resources of Schokland. This landscape has a great attraction for birds, so as a bird lover you can indulge yourself here.
