Burgh-Haamstede is a village with a rich cultural history. In the countryside you can walk through the castle forest and the Zeepeduinen. To enjoy!
Ringwalburg
The route starts in Burgh, a village that arose around a ring wall that was erected at the end of the ninth century against raiding Normans. Before you turn left on the Leliëndaleweg, look to the right: a reconstruction of the ringwalburg has been made there, including an earthen wall and wooden palisades. It gives you a unique jump back in time.
Zeepeduinen
In Haamstede, which is attached to Burgh, you will see some beautiful monuments, such as the old village church and the thirteenth-century Haamstede Castle. From there you walk into the castle forest: the only deciduous forest on Schouwen-Duiveland. It is wonderfully quiet in the Zeepeduinen. A herd of Shetland ponies graze between the dune plants to prevent the open plain from becoming overgrown.
Tour tip; Hiking with kids! Routes up to 5 km are ideal
