You will find plenty of cultural history along the Maas near Ravenstein and Batenburg. And of course beautiful natural beauty. In short, an ideal environment for a day out.
Keent floodplain
The route starts at Hotel Restaurant Zalen Hoogeerd. From the terrace you can look out over the Maas while enjoying something tasty. From the dike it is nice and quiet to cycle through the floodplains. You look out over flower-rich grasslands and the rippling water of the Maas. Past Grave you pass Keent. In this rugged nature reserve, a former Maas arm, cut off and closed in 1938, has been excavated again and connected to the river on one side.
Batenburg Castle
Cycling along the Maas you will pass the beautiful Ravenstein. Further on you pass through the protected village view of Megen. Here you will see, among other things, the Gevangenpoort, a fourteenth-century gate tower that was once part of the demolished wall. On the other side of the Maas you cycle past Wijngaard De Kleine Heerlijkheid, a nice stop off. Batenburg enjoys a protected cityscape, here you can see, among other things, the ruins of a medieval castle.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
