Get a breath of fresh air along the Lower Rhine

It is wonderful to travel for miles along the Lower Rhine. You mainly cycle along the floodplains, where you will find peace and space. You will also pass the Gelders Narrow Gauge Museum and Heimerstein Castle.

Get some fresh air
You start this route at Allurepark De Thijmse Berg, a beautiful place to stay in the middle of the woods near Rhenen. After boarding you drive along the edge of Rhenen to the Lower Rhine. You cross the river via a bridge. You have a beautiful view, in the distance you can see the more than 80 meter high tower of the Cunera Church. Then you cycle over the dike along the floodplains. Get a breath of fresh air while enjoying the peace and space!

Randwijk brickworks
At Steenbakkerij Randwijk GSS you will find the Gelders Narrow Gauge Museum, but also a monumental brickworks. Here you can bake bricks in the old-fashioned way with a coal-fired ring oven. You cross the river on a ferry, after which you cycle for miles along the dike. You will pass the Blauwe Kamer nature reserve, among other things. Further on you will pass Heimerstein Castle. After the original castle was completely destroyed during the Battle of Grebbeberg in 1940, it was rebuilt in 1946.
