Description
On the Utrechtse Heuvelrug it is wonderful to walk through nature. This route takes you through the Zeisterbos and through Landgoed Heidestein.
Zeisterbos
The route starts at Woudschoten Hotel & Conference Centre, a beautiful hotel in the middle of the woods. Such surroundings naturally inspire you to put on your walking shoes. Dogs are not allowed on this estate. From the hotel you can walk straight into the Zeisterbos. By Dutch standards an old forest, as the trees are more than 200 years old. The forest floor is covered with Solomon's seal, blueberry, rowan and honeysuckle. Just after a rain shower this produces wonderful scents!
Heidestein Estate
At Landgoed Heidestein you pass a sheepfold from 1884 that is now set up as an information centre of the Utrechts Landschap. On the open field around the sheepfold there are Drentse heath sheep. Heidestein consists of a mosaic of coniferous and deciduous forests, heathlands and drifting sands. On the heath there are a few benches to enjoy the view and the peace and quiet.
