A walk through the Middachter Forests

Need a break from your thoughts? Then take this walk through the forests of Landgoed Middachten, on the edge of the Veluwe moraine.

Hagenau Estate
The route starts at Landgoed Hagenau. This estate was purchased by Natuurmonumenten in 1911 and formed the beginning of the establishment of De Veluwezoom, the nature reserve that was declared the first national park of the Netherlands in 1930. It is wonderfully quiet here, ideal for recharging the batteries.

Starry forest
In the rolling forests of Landgoed Middachten you walk between the many oaks and beeches, occasionally you also see conifers. The deeper you walk into the forest, the quieter it becomes. Towards the end of your route you walk through the star forest of Hof ter Heide, a centuries-old estate. You walk here over wide avenues that are lined with deciduous trees. On top of the Carolinaberg stands a beautiful old beech, a special place.
