On foot through the beautiful surroundings of Rockanje

This walk around Rockanje takes you into the countryside. A nice walk of over 17 kilometers through the Strypse Wetering, the forests and the grasslands and farmlands.

The mill of Rockanje
The route starts at restaurant De Jongens, where you can first have a nice cup of coffee before you start the walk. The lunchroom is located on the village square of Rockanje, a cozy village on the island of Voorne-Putten. After less than ten minutes you pass the Rockanje, the corn mill that was built in 1718. The mill stood still for a while, but in 2009 the mill was restored and became operational again.

Strypse Wetering
After you pass the mill, you follow the course of the Strypse Wetering. This watercourse is a creek remnant and forms an important link in the connecting routes for plants and animals. It is a lovely rural area, a perfect area to explore on foot. It is also nice to walk further on, such as over the Pancrasgorsedijk: a car-free road where you are sheltered for a while by a hedge and a row of trees.

Through the forest
After walking through the fields, you enter the forest. Here lies the Quackjeswater, a dune lake dating from the 17th century. Over time, a humid forest has formed around the lake, a fairytale to walk through! Various birds can often be seen on and around the dune lake. The route ends where you started: at restaurant De Jongens.
