Description

How beautiful they are, those Kinderdijkse Mills. With this walking route you can view them up close at your leisure. And enjoy the old landscape of wind, water and meadows.

Kinderdijk Mills
You initially look out over the Noord, a tidal river. From the Molenkade you can see the first of the world-famous Kinderdijkse Molens, nineteen polder mills that regulate the water level. They were built in the eighteenth century to improve the drainage of the Alblasserwaard. Since 1997, the mills have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Blokker
Further on you will pass the Blokker, which has been set up as a museum mill. Here you will experience how the paddle wheel can grind the water up a meter to the bosom! While walking you will not only enjoy the mills, but also the beautiful landscape with its rows of rustling poplars, crooked pollard willows and waving reed collars. On sunny days you will see the clouds reflected in the rippling water. Via the picturesque village of Kinderdijk you will walk back to the starting point.
