Just below Maastricht you can take a beautiful walk along the Maas. You will also pass through the picturesque Eijsden.
Eisder Beemden
The first few meters you walk along the banks of the Pietersplas to the park of Kasteel Oost. Since 1950, the former medieval fortress has mainly looked like a country house. In the adjacent Eijsder Beemden you walk through a mosaic of grasslands, ponds, willow forests and an old standard orchard. On the horizon are the wooded hills.
Eastern Maarland
In Eijsden you can walk along the former Ursuline convent. The facade of this monument dating from 1899 was designed by the famous architect Pierre Cuypers. Further on is the Sint-Martinuskerk: the late Gothic marl tower dates back to 1500. At Heerlijkheid Breust you can grab a meal or coffee with pie on a terrace. You walk through the outside area with fruit orchards to East Maarland, where you will see several centuries-old farms.
