You leave from B&B and Camping Lentemaheerd. This beautiful route takes you through the province of Groningen. This will be a day of enjoying the vast landscape and the rich cultural history of Groningen that you will find in the many old villages. You can enjoy a terrace on the village square in Loppersum. One of the charms of Groningen is the wealth of old churches. You will see plenty of them during this cycle route. Just like in Middelstum, which enjoys a protected village view. Here you also pass the beautiful old gatehouse from 1611 of the former Asingaborg. Groningen once had more than 200 guarantors, now there are only seventeen. Such as the fourteenth-century Menkemaborg in Uithuizen, a museum. Worth exploring before you cycle back to your starting point!

The church is one of the oldest Romanesque churches in the province. Some glazed monastic mops can be seen in the outer walls. In the north wall, partially visible, a 'Noormannenpoortje'. On the original beams of the hood you can find 'counting marks' that indicate the construction sequence. The roof rider with weather vane with the coat of arms of the Ripperdas, memorial plates in the choir room and the family crypt under the choir.

This is one of the oldest brick churches on the highest mound in the Ommelanden. The church was built in the late 12th century. Romanesque in origin, but partly amputated in the 19th century: the semicircular apse was replaced by a flat wall. Today the church is owned by the Stichting Oude Groninger churches and functions as a wedding location in the municipality of Loppersum.

The corn and hulling mill was built in 1849 and is located on the west side of the village, not far from the Wijmers. The mill is now equipped with sails on traditional Dutch sails.

Windlust

The most famous windmill type in the Netherlands. Windmills were used not only to produce flour from cereals, but also to reclaim polder areas. Natural energy. The most famous windmills can be found in Kinderdijk, really set up as a polder model. A must see!
