Cycling through the Dollard

This beautiful route through the province of Groningen takes you from Delfzijl to Uithuizermeeden. That will be a day of enjoying the wide landscape and the rich Groningen cultural history that you will find in the many old villages.

Special Biessum
You depart from Hotel Restaurant de Boegschroef, a cozy location on the harbor of Delfzijl. Cycling along the banks of the meandering Damsterdiep you will see some beautiful old buildings. Biessum and Uitwierde are two characteristic wierde villages of which the wierden are approximately 2000 years old. Wow, what a special atmosphere! At the village square in Loppersum you can get off to enjoy a coffee with something delicious or an extensive lunch.

Beautiful Middle
One of the charms of Groningen is the wealth of old churches. You will see them in abundance during this cycle route. Like in Middelstum, which enjoys a protected village view. You also pass the beautiful old gatehouse from 1611 of the former Asingaborg. Groningen once had more than 200 deposits, now there are only seventeen left. Like the fourteenth-century Menkemaborg in Uithuizen, a museum. At camping/boertel Lentemaheerd you can spend the night peacefully after your trip.
