Walking through Deer

This route takes you through Ool en Herten, two towns that lie between the Maas and Roermond. You walk past sights and through the Roer valley.

Marina
You start this route at Maasterras Kanters. Walking along the leafy Maasstraat you have a beautiful view of the Maas. You regularly see a pleasure boat or push boat passing by with cargo. In Herten you can see, among other things, the beautiful marina and the beautiful St. Michael's Church. A little later you look out over the flowery grasslands, on the right a 157 meter high transmission tower towers above everything like a beacon in the landscape.

Oolderplas
You cross the bridge at the point where the Roer flows into the Maas: a nice photo opportunity. Further on you walk along the banks of the Boven-Roer. It is nice and quiet to walk between the trees here. Just like in the landscape park that belongs to Hattem Castle, originally a seventeenth-century country house. The Oolderplas was created by gravel extraction, along the banks you walk back to Maasterras Kanters. Enjoy a drink and snack here, while overlooking the Maas.
