Walking through Deer

This route takes you through Ool and Herten, two towns located between the Maas and Roermond. You walk past sights and through the Roer Valley.

Marina
You start this route at Maasterras Kanters. Walking along the leafy Maasstraat you have a beautiful view of the Maas. You regularly see a pleasure boat or push boat with cargo passing by. In Herten you can see the beautiful marina and the beautiful St. Michael's Church. A little later you look out over the flower-rich grasslands, and on the right a 157 meter high transmission tower towers above everything like a beacon in the landscape.

Oolderplas
You cross the bridge at the point where the Roer flows into the Maas: a nice photo opportunity. Further on you walk along the banks of the Upper Roer. It is wonderfully quiet here to walk among the trees. Just like in the landscape park that belongs to Hattem Castle, an originally seventeenth-century country house. The Oolderplas was created by gravel extraction, you walk back along the banks to Maasterras Kanters. Enjoy this moment with a drink and a snack, while looking out over the Maas.
