Description

Your cycle route starts with a cup of coffee at Grand Café and Hotel Broeck Oudewater. Centuries-old towns, the beautifully meandering Hollandse IJssel, a wide lake area where many special plants grow: this route is very varied! Oudewater is the oldest town in the Groene Hart, a beautiful place to start your day out. You follow the Hollandse IJssel to another historic town: Gouda, with its atmospheric, historic centre. You pass right by the fifteenth-century Gothic St. John's Church, beautiful! At 123 metres, the church building is the longest in the Netherlands and has characteristic canopies. Near the cheese town, you can cycle wonderfully on and around Reeuwijkse Plassen. Large bodies of water, forest and meadow characterise the area. The cuckoo flower, cuckoo flower, marsh loosestrife and water soldier grow luxuriantly in the former polder.
