Follow the Bootspad across the Keukenhof estate

Look for leprechauns
At the beginning of the route you walk through the woods and other beautiful landscapes. Take a good look around you, because there are several garden gnomes hiding in the landscape of this estate. Feel free to take your family on the road and make it a fun treasure hunt for gnomes.

Keukenhof Castle
You then continue walking across the Keukenhof estate . At the start of the route you walk right past the imposing Keukenhof Castle . This castle was built in 1642 as a country house for a former VOC commander. Over the centuries, the castle has been further expanded into the current structure. The castle houses a special collection of historical furniture and portraits. If you book in advance, you can take a look at the castle on Sundays accompanied by a guide.

Stroll along Leidsevaart
The last part of the route takes you along Leidsevaart, a canal that used to be an important route for barges between Haarlem and Leiden. This canal was dug in 1657. Nowadays, there is no longer any sailing on this water, because several fixed bridges have been built over the length of this canal.

Please note: Part of this route runs through the Keukenhof grounds. This park is only accessible from the end of March to the middle of May for a fee. You cannot follow this part of the route for the rest of the year. Take a look at the Keukenhof website for the exact opening hours and admission prices.
