Description
Gouda is easy to explore on foot. This route takes you through the Reeuwijkse Plassen and the historic city center.
Reeuwijkse Plassen
The peat that was extracted from the ground here centuries ago was used by, among others, Gouda beer brewers. From the path before junction 14 you have a nice view over the Elfhoevenplas. It is wonderfully quiet to walk on the low-traffic dikes that separate the lakes.
City Hall Gouda
Along the Hollandse IJssel you will pass the Waaiersluis, a monument from 1862. Molen't Slot is a corn mill from 1832. Walking along the Oosthavenkade, it seems as if you are walking in another time. A feeling that becomes even stronger when you walk into the historic city center. On the Markt you can see beautiful buildings, including the sixteenth-century Herthuis and the Kaaswaag from 1670. And of course the beautiful fifteenth-century town hall, the icon of the city.
