Elburg, Kampen and the Drontermeer

It is beautiful to cycle on the Drontermeer. You drive through new forests and a wonderfully wide polder landscape. You will also pass through two historic towns: Elburg and Kampen.

The first kilometers are wonderful cycling through this relatively young nature reserve with its mix of deciduous and coniferous forest. More than 500 mushroom species grow here in autumn! Unbelievable that a century ago the Zuiderzee was still here!

Hanseatic city of Elburg
In the old heart of Kampen you can effortlessly experience the history of this characteristic Hanseatic town. Such as in the French Walkate Archive. Further on you cycle along the banks of the Drontermeer to the fortress of Elburg, the Hanseatic city that once lay on the Zuiderzee. Take time to look at the many beautiful historic buildings. Also note the characteristic cobblestone sidewalks in front of some old houses, which are protected by the Monuments Act!
