Polder tower
The route starts in Emmeloord. You immediately notice how green this town, which was built in 1943, is. Soon you will see the Poldertoren in the distance: a water tower from 1959. With its 65.30 meters it is one of the highest water towers in the Netherlands. It is wonderful to walk on the leafy path along the Urkervaart, while looking out over the rippling water.
Resistance heroes
In the countryside you walk a bit on the path along the Hannie Schaftweg. It is one of the roads named after World War II resistance fighters in this region. Not without reason: because of the reclamation, the Noordoostpolder was an ideal area for people in hiding at the time.
