You can cycle in the Gelderse Vallei in a peaceful environment. Besides silence, you will also find a lot of cultural history there.
The Schammer
You regularly pass a characteristic old farm. Just outside Stoutenburg you drive through De Schammer, a rugged landscape of flowery meadows, marshlands, waving reeds and sparkling streams. This is how the entire Gelderse Vallei once looked.
Grebbe line
At Leusden you cycle a few kilometers along the Valleikanaal, a watercourse that formed an important part of the Grebbe Line. In the landscape you can still see a few casemates that serve as silent witnesses to the battle that took place here during the Second World War. Scherpenzeel is a picturesque village that was once located at a strategic point on the border of Gelre and Utrecht. Here you will see, among other things, the monumental Reformed Church from 1300.
