Eindhoven: Herdgang / Golden Oriole / Meerbos

I parked my car in a residential area, right at junction 15, right across from the Evoluon (see photo). The parking lot at the Eigenwijs Children's Farm, on the edge of the Philip van Lennep Park, is probably more convenient. The Philips De Jongh Park is a great alternative, there are many benches, a restaurant and it is a popular picnic spot.

SURROUNDINGS + ROUTE:

The route is very suitable for runners and partly runs through city parks, but also around the grounds of Golfbaan Welschap. After that you walk a long way on the (formerly unpaved) cycle path along the Beatrixkanaal. The route from Junction 72 to 71 is rather unsafe: the road is narrow, there is no footpath and the 'verge' is overgrown with nettles. So you have to walk a long way on a road with a lot of traffic to and from Eindhoven Airport and the business park around it. If you like 'spotting' planes, you can walk from 72 towards 70. That is about 350 meters, there may be a car where you can buy something to eat or drink. On the way to junction 71 you walk over a not very interesting part along the Anthony Fokkerweg, but it does take you into the green of De Herdgang where it is pleasant to walk. The route ends with a section through Drents Dorp, traditionally a working-class district built by Philips for Philips employees.
