STARTING POINT:
This route starts at Oldenbarneveltlaan. There is a parking lot here at the Eckart Wandelbos and it is located on the edge of the Karpendonkse Plas, a nice place to enjoy a moment at the end of the walk. When you walk into the forest you are directly on the route. A good alternative is the Karregat Shopping Center on Urkhovenseweg, near junction 44 or the Collse Watermolen on Collseweg, near junction 42.
DESCRIPTION:
I have lived in this area for more than 30 years, but this walk was a true voyage of discovery. The Karpendonkse Plas is a favorite training spot for runners, but also ideal for a picnic. Although you are never far from civilization, you sometimes feel like you are in a natural paradise. The forest between't Hofke and De Berenkuil is especially a surprise. The area just past junction 42 is striking, where you walk through the fields and where it is always a mystery what is blooming now (this is so close to home that I have been there very often this summer). In short: a beautiful walk and also great for runners. Please read the comments below, as the signage is confusing or missing!
NB:
The route is very poorly marked in some parts of the route. I have lived in this neighborhood for years, so this was not a big problem for me, but for those who are not familiar with (this part of) Eindhoven, here are a few tips:
FROM 77 TO 43:
You will follow a paved road for a long time here. At the power station an arrow directs you to the right... there was probably once a passable path here, but I haven't been able to find it. You just have to go straight here, you will then walk straight to the Collse Watermolen. At the intersection, turn right and you will quickly reach junction 43.
FROM 42 TO 44:
This route takes you through a residential area [Moggendries] and this is a maze. I immediately got off the route here, there is almost nothing signposted! My advice is not to walk into the Moggendries, but just follow the main road. Further on it makes a bend to the right and then you walk straight to junction 44.
FROM 82 TO 84:
You are standing here in front of the Berekuil and the signs have apparently disappeared. You must follow the cycle path downwards here. You will then arrive at a bicycle roundabout, here you take the second exit (straight ahead) and it is best to climb the stairs and then turn left!
At the traffic lights you will see an arrow to the right, but you must cross immediately afterwards (there is an arrow on the lamppost in the middle of the road) and then walk diagonally to the right into the park [Karpendonke Plas].
