Description
North of Zoetermeer you will find a quiet polder area including the Zoetermeerse Plas. This area is perfect for a walk to clear your head for a while. Sometimes it is wonderful to hear nothing but the sound of the wind and birdsong.
Into the polders
The edge of Zoetermeer forms the starting point of this route. A little further along the route you will find the City Museum Zoetermeer in't Oude Huis. This museum is located in a former mayor's residence from 1872. Until 1931, this house was inhabited by various mayors. Admire this beautiful structure from the outside or step inside to learn more about Zoetermeer. You then walk along the edge of the Buytenpark into the polders around Zoetermeer. You will pass the hulls of the upper mill and the lower mill Zoetermeersepolder. These windmills ensured for years that the Zoetermeersepolder did not flood.
