Description

Monnickendam has a well-preserved old center. Ideal for exploring on a walk. With this route you can also get a breath of fresh air on the dike.

Museum
Then you walk through the most beautiful streets of Monnickendam. You will see many centuries-old buildings with a clock, stepped or gabled facade. You will also pass the Speeltoren. This historic town hall tower has the oldest hand-playable carillon in the Netherlands. A museum has been housed in the tower since 1981. Further on is the centuries-old Town Hall.

Gouwzee
The Grote Kerk was built in the 15th century in the Gothic style. From here you walk on a leafy footpath along the old moat. You make a cut through to the city park, after which you walk over the dike along the Gouwzee. Get a breath of fresh air while looking at the rippling water.
