Description
You will find the town of Losser near Enschede and Oldenzaal. This town in Twente is located near the German border and is surrounded by quiet forests and open areas full of fields and meadows. Get to know the pleasant life in Losser and enjoy the peace and quiet in the surrounding nature reserves.
Along the edge of the Oelemars
The starting point of this route is in the center of Losser. From here you set course for the German border. Just before you cross the border you turn towards the water of the Oelemars. This is a large sand extraction pit where sand is still extracted today. Around this pond you will find a recreational area that mainly consists of swamps and small heathlands. At the edge of the lake there is a lookout tower that you can climb to enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding area. From here you walk back into Losser.
Time for a break
After a little more than 5 kilometers of walking, you can take a break at Restaurant De Oude Apotheek. Enjoy a delicious lunch, a cup of coffee or something else here and then get back on the road.
Cycling next to the Dinkel
You also walk a bit along the beautiful river Dinkel. This river flows into the Netherlands from Germany at Losser. In this area the river meanders unhindered through the landscape, creating a beautiful environment. The river and the green banks of the Dinkel are protected as Natura 2000 areas in this area.
