Description
In the area of Tiel and Wijk bij Duurstede you will find a water-rich area with canals, rivers and ponds. This area is popular among water sports enthusiasts, but a bike ride along the water is also definitely worthwhile. Jump on your bike and let yourself be taken along the most beautiful places in Gelderland.
Wetland nature reserves
The first part of this route takes you past several ponds, including the Lingemeer. This lake is a recreational lake of 80 hectares that was created by sand extraction. Around the lake you will find the Lingedael estate. This estate is slowly being expanded with more water and nature. A little further on you cycle across the Lower Rhine via a bridge to Rhenen and then cycle into the woods on the edge of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. In the meantime, take a break at the Wapen van Elst with a delicious cup of coffee and something tasty. Then cycle further and enjoy the greenery around you and work up a sweat on the many small hills that can be found in this area. Once you are out of the forest, you continue cycling along the course of the Lower Rhine to Wijk bij Duurstede.
