The Blakheide nature reserve is located on the border where Beerse and Rijkevorsel merge. This narrow strip of nature with forests, fens, old peat pits and small heathlands is sandwiched between several pleasant places such as Merksplas and Beerse. On to Belgium to explore this beautiful area.
Birds on the Blak
You start your walk in the middle of nature. From here you walk along Lake Blak. This lake is a popular place for water birds. A special bird watching wall has been constructed at the edge of the lake so that you can watch the water birds on the water without disturbing them and chasing them away. If you like bird watching, this is the place for you. Sand was once extracted at the site of this viewing wall, creating a lower heathland. From here you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. You then continue walking through the coniferous forests that have been planted here, the deciduous forests and past small heathlands that have withstood the test of time.
An ice cream or a cup of coffee
The start and end point of this route is the ice cream parlor De Blakheide. Here you can get a traditional ice cream, but you can also drink a nice cup of coffee. Sit down on the terrace and enjoy.
Protected heathlands
You once found large heathlands at this location, but little of them remains. Nowadays the Blakheide belongs to a protected Natura 2000 area. Heathland restoration is one of the most important goals of this protected area. This ensures that the varied nature here is preserved and that is of course only nice for cyclists and walkers who go out here.
