Description
The flat Land of Peel en Maas is a wonderfully quiet walking area where you will find nice villages. This route also leads you along a canal that was built by order of Napoleon.
Peelland
Today you will explore the Land of Peel en Maas. A region where arable lands, flowery meadows and small-scale forest areas alternate. One minute you're walking under a roof of foliage, the next you're enjoying the sun on your face. Here and there you see characteristic farms. It is wonderfully quiet here, ideal for recharging the battery.
Napoleon
The tour also leads you along the Noordervaart, built in 1808 by order of Napoleon as part of the Scheldt-Maas-Rhine canal. However, the canal is only navigable as far as Beringe: the annexation of Rotterdam suddenly made the canal superfluous and the work was stopped.
