Description
The flat Land of Peel en Maas is a wonderfully quiet walking area where you will find nice villages. This route also takes you along a canal that was built on behalf of Napoleon.
Peelland
Today you will explore the Land of Peel and Maas. A region where arable lands, flowery meadows and small-scale forest areas alternate. One moment you are walking under a roof of foliage, a moment later you are enjoying the sun on your face. Here and there you see characteristic farms. It is wonderfully quiet here, ideal for recharging the battery.
Napoleon
The tour also takes you along the Noordervaart, constructed in 1808 on behalf of Napoleon as part of the Scheldt-Meuse-Rhine canal. However, the canal is only navigable as far as Beringe: the annexation of Rotterdam suddenly made the canal redundant and the work was stopped.
