Cycling between the Old and New Maas

Cycling between the Oude and Nieuwe Maas is fun. This route takes you through the Rotterdam IJsselmonde district, through Barendrecht and along the natural banks of the Oude Maas.

Lots of urban nature
From Barendrecht Station you can drive straight into the IJsselmonde district. Here you drive past Park de Twee Heuvels, which was constructed in 1971. Further on you drive past the Kreekse Haven, a former drainage canal where the beautiful houseboats create a nice atmosphere. A little later you drive past the Feyenoord stadium. In the Lombardijen district you drive through the Spinoza Park, in Barendrecht you pass Park Nieuweland and the Bakkerspark.

Lookout Hill
You drive through the polder to the banks of the Oude Maas. A surprisingly natural strip of land that includes the Carnisse Grienden: an area with rare freshwater tidal pilot whales. You also pass through the Jan Gerritsepolder. Here is the Gaatkensbult, a nice lookout hill. At Pannekoekenhuis Oude Maas you can enjoy something tasty and a fantastic view of the Oude Maas! You drive back to the starting point along the Ziedewijpolder.
