The surprising nature around Barendrecht

You can take a bike ride around Barendrecht through a surprisingly natural rural area. In the town itself you can still experience the friendly atmosphere of the village that Barendrecht once was.

Old Maas
From Barendrecht Station you can easily drive into the countryside. Cycling is surprisingly green here! On the Noldijk you will see a beautiful eighteenth-century farm. You cross the Waaltje, a dead arm of the river. In Heerjansdam you pass the fifteenth-century village church. You cycle to Pannekoekenhuis Oude Maas between the many trees that grow along the river. Here you can enjoy a drink and something tasty, while you have a fantastic view of the shipping traffic.

Carnisse Grienden
You drive through the natural Vredepolder to the Jan Gerritsepolder. Here is the Gaatkensbult, a lookout hill that was created during the construction of a residential area. There is a special mirror on the bump: the work of art'Sky, Moon, Mirror, Environment\\\'. Further on you drive through the Carnisse Grienden, a strip of land consisting of rare freshwater tidal grienden. What a beautiful nature reserve! In the Dorpsstraat of Barendrecht you can still see an old farm and the village church from 1512.
