From Almere you can easily drive to the Oostvaardersplassen. Here you can enjoy beautiful views of one of the Netherlands' most unspoilt areas of nature.
Spoonbill pees
For example, you cross the leafy Lage and Hoge Vaart, after which you drive past the Leeghwaterplas and the water that is part of the Noorderplassen district. A little later you cycle past the Lepelaarplassen, a swampy nature reserve.
Unspoilt Netherlands
Cycling along the Oostvaardersdijk you will see the vast Markermeer on your left. On the right you look out over the Oostvaardersplassen, one of the Netherlands' most unspoilt nature reserves. Thousands of years ago, our entire country looked like this. Now this area with its reeds, water, rough grasslands and wild animals is unique in all of Europe. Get off at the De Oostvaarders Nature Experience Center, for example to spot animals in the area with the binoculars provided without disturbing them.
