Description
This route takes you from Rijpwetering for a tour through the polders. You follow in famous footsteps, because this region was once the training area of Joop Zoetemelk.
Joop Zoetemelkpad
From Rijpwetering you cycle along the Dried Veender and Lijkerpolder. On the horizon you can see the blades of the Lijker mills that drained this polder at the end of the eighteenth century. In addition to the Ripselaan, you also drive along the Joop Zoetemelkpad, a route that the former cyclist liked to use during training.
Kagerplassen
You drive across the Huigsloterdijk to the picturesque village of Kaag. You can cross the Kagerplassen via a ferry, nice and old-fashioned! It is wonderful to travel for miles in the polders lined with ditches. You regularly pass old farms and mills, such as the Lagenwaardse Molen: a polder mill that originally dates from 1634. You also look out over the Langeraarse Plassen and the Brassemermeer. What a beautiful route!
