De Wieden and De Olde Maten are beautiful nature reserves in the Kop van Overijssel region. You'll also pass through charming old villages, such as Hasselt.
Hanseatic city of Hasselt
In this water-rich region, you'll find many small marinas, such as those in Blauwe Hand and Belt-Schutsloot. Zwartsluis lies at the confluence of the Zwarte Water and the Meppelerdiep. This charming village was once the transit port for the transport of peat from Drenthe to Holland. Further on, you'll pass the Olde Maten, another stunning wetland nature reserve.
The Wieden
In De Wieden, you can fully enjoy the reed beds and swamp forests. And of course, the tranquility. However pristine this area may appear, it has been shaped by peat extraction over the centuries. You can cross over to Jonen by ferry, after which you'll drive along the picturesque Dwarsgracht canal.
